Barefoot on Organic Grass: Protecting What Matters Most

Years ago, I saw an organic farmer and herbalist working his land barefoot. He believed that having direct contact with the earth would help discharge static electricity from our body and simultaneously absorb all great energies and nutrients from the soil. The skin, especially the soles of our feet are capable to absorb very speedily any constituents that is laid over or touch. In many traditional cultures, healers applied herbal poultices to the skin or recommended therapeutic foot soaks.  Even conventional medicine uses the skin as a pathway—think of nicotine or hormone patches that deliver medication through absorption. That simple truth matters.

Why Organic Lawns Make a Difference

Walking barefoot on natural grass strengthens the small muscles of the feet and gives you a sense of freedom especially in children who could finally be free to run without the restriction of insulating rubber soles.

But not every lawn is safe for bare feet.

Many conventional yards are treated with synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, pre-emergent weed preventers, and fungicides. Unfortunately, it is scientifically proven that whatever is on the lawn will be absorb through the skin. That primarily includes those very toxic conventional products that are applied on lawns. Children are particularly vulnerable because their bodies are still developing, they play close to the ground, and they frequently put their hands in their mouths.

Our Pets Are Even Closer to the Ground

Dogs and cats walk directly on treated grass, then lick their paws and fur. They may roll in the yard or nibble on grass. This repeated contact increases exposure. Some veterinary and environmental alarming health concerns have been raised.

A Healthier Yard, A Healthier Family

Choosing organic lawn care reduces synthetic chemical exposure while supporting soil health and biodiversity. If we want our children to run barefoot and our pets to play freely, the ground beneath them should be as safe as possible.

Sometimes protecting our families starts from the ground up.

Small changes — like eliminating synthetic treatments and replacing them with organic applications on your yard — can make a meaningful difference.

Let’s together transform your grounds into a therapeutic spot where we can walk barefooted, peacefully give and receive with the earth.
