Mole & Vole Control Program

We hold deep beliefs that life can be nurtured without resorting to harmful practices, which are not only dangerous for the planet we call home, but for all its inhabitants.

Moles are small burrowing mammals from the Talpidae family and the hairy-tailed moles (Parascalops breweri), are the most common in the northeastern United States. In some situations, moles actually serve a valuable function by offering deep aeration of soil as they feed on grubs, earthworms, and other underground insects. However, for homeowners seeking a beautiful lawn, moles are a serious nuisance. The small volcano-shaped heaps of earth caused by mole tunneling can ruin your well-manicured lawn.

Moles and voles are often confused because of their similar names and burrowing habits, but they have a few differences that can help us distinguish them:

Diet: Moles “M” are meat-eaters, and their diet consists of insects, grubs, and earthworms. Voles “V”, on the other hand, are vegetarians and eat the roots and stems of plants.

Moles create “Mounds” or upward tunnels on the lawn while Voles create “Channels” on the lawn.

Moles disturb the soil and plants even though they do not eat the plants or roots. The earthworms are very beneficial to your soil and plants. The grubs (with the exception of Japanese beetle grubs) are not a problem in most situations. Common pesticide ‘wisdom’ says: “Kill the grubs and the moles will leave”. However, we have not found this to be the case. Chemical grub eradication is an expensive way to toxify the environment, your pets, yard and groundwater. And unfortunately, the resident moles are still feasting on earthworms.

Our mole & vole control will encompass a holistic approach to the overall health of your yard.

Repelling the moles & voles electronically, applying a non-toxic substance, and trapping them properly provide a good result. We schedule follow up applications to maintain the barrier. Regular applications establish a zone where moles and voles do not want to enter.

Controlling wildlife is not a precise science and this will be a constant battle. Convincing wildlife to go elsewhere is a complex task needing repetition and several layers of pressure. By using our non-toxic mole & vole repellents, we maintain your property as friendly as possible to children, pets, and thus creating a good balance of beneficial wildlife.

Our program is welcoming to natural predators of moles. Neighborhood cats, owls, and foxes will not be harmed.
